Finding Beauty

Finding Beauty

A Poem by G. Anderson

When life is angry.
Hurling, torrential.
It hurts. So many dark rooms,
so little lights.

So many cold truths, numbing
your spirit.

So many open wounds,
more wounds than closed skin.
And you're dying.

You must survive.

You must find the beauty
around you,
the beauty in pain.
In truth, when truth is
so pale, blunt, and ugly.

Find the beauty in the wounds,
the beauty of healing.

The beauty of those tiny lights
in the darkness...
Because every light shines brighter
when darkness surrounds it.

One little light is far more important than
many lights.

It's more beautiful, doesn't blend in with the others.
Sticks out.

Truth is cold and unemotional.
It's there.
Like water, the more you try to grasp...
It slips through your hands. You must
find the beauty in truth, hold
it gently...
ever so lightly..
as to conserve what there is.

You can drink from truth, but never catch it.
Find the beauty in being immersed in truth, as you immerse yourself
in water...

Truth has no taste but the taste you put in it.

The wounds...
So many open and festering wounds.
They bring to light those small spots within you
that are undamaged.
You cannot use the damaged pieces,
yet you strengthen the ones that work.

Those scars remind you of the mistakes, you learn.
And relate to others with your agonies.
Unless you fix the bone, it grows in the wrong direction.
Unless you right your wrong, it branches into negativity.
Unless you clean your wound, it gets infected.
Unless you deal with your hurt, it grows worse.

There is an underlying beauty in the pain of loss,
in the depth of being alone in a dark room...
In the dispassionate face of truth.

And only if you search for it.

Thank you! I enjoy expressing my frustration and try to reach as many people as possible with what little words there are in the English language.
