InsanityA Poem by G. AndersonInsanity"repeating the same action over and over, and expecting a different result. Or try, Raking your fingernails across your face and chest, expecting it to hurt enough to distract you from your mental anguish. Slamming your face into a wall, over and over again, hoping it will knock something back into place. Because ever since that incident happened, something seems loose or out of place. Or perhaps… Lying on the bathroom floor, your face pinched against the wall, coughing until your breath is ragged and throat is bleeding. You’ve been puking your guts out for hours now. Maybe even Slamming drink after drink, tipping your head back and feeling the whiskey burn through your already-torn throat. Then falling to the ground. The Lord having no mercy on you, You’re going insane. Tears literally spilling from your face, leaving little droplets on your breasts until you’re completely soaked. Insanity? Not just repeating an action and expecting different results. It’s having no idea what to do, no direction. Nothing to fall back on. You’ve hit rock bottom, and this time your head has hit a little too hard. Insanity is really not giving a damn about anything, not even yourself. Plunging head first into a lake and feeling the water rush into your nostrils, stinging your eyes, filling your ears and flushing through your mouth. That is insanity. You have to feel the intensity of the state of mind before you can judge what it is or how it works. © 2011 G. Anderson |
