Awaken

Awaken

A Poem by G. Anderson

Sometimes, you just wake up. Your mind has been running for years, fingers cold and numb...

anger reddening your ears...

Solitude tempting your thoughts into

seeping deeper and damper

into the short of gritty misery.

You stop running.

You've been searching for a

home you haven't quite found yet...

Running from regret.

These agonies have been chasing you,

nipping at your blistered, bruised heels.

And as you wake up, your

agonies rush to greet you.

Surround you.

Drown you.

Utterly confuse and astound you.

You wake up from a numbing,

distant sleep.

You scream.

Those years of torment, turbulent torture

you thought would never end.

Those empty smiles to shadow wet cheeks,

that were always oily and weak.

Those roads walked alone and without a friend.

A gloomy moodand broiling hate,

formed 'round mountains of inglorious back slides.

You awaken with a rage, cracking open the

foundation of self-loathe.

You awaken from somnolent apathy, shaking a victorious fist...

envied by those lost along the winding way.
