TemptationA Poem by CourtneyThis isn't one of my favourite poems.. But I do like the content and message. Enjoy xWhat is it that a model sees When she looks at herself in shame? Her viewers fall for the deceit; The mask she wears to hide her pains That burden her with dragging weights, Gaining hate with ev'ry pound lost. Her trials were unveiled too late, Dating back to where her life paused And she let go her will to choose Which "beauty" could push itself through The barriers that were abused, Resulting in this twisted view Where the girl looking back at her Has thighs too wide and cheeks too low. Fingers down her throat will alter The numbers of the scale below, Yet at what cost can she appease The lustful gaze of appraisers? Each tedious moment of disease Takes moments from the life and worth That no one ever let her feel. Then one day someone came along Who gave her cause to calm her fears. If ev'rything she knew was wrong, And purging left her naught but bone, She could see her life spiralling Down the drain. Leaving her alone With the man and wretched itching To let her fingers return "home" To safety of burning scratches. It seems so easy to let go And accept the blissful wretches Where guilt is simply released And the world comes to a standstill. What is it in life that is missed When love is apparently real? Yet she is left with the tempting disease.
