Slow MotionA Chapter by Smith Courtney
As Jane walked into school the next day, she went over in her head what had happened the previous day. Scattered memories of her mother's pained expression through her own bloodshot eyes came through. It had almost seemed as if her mother was a fragile peice of glass, or a delicate flower, breaking. Like when something bad always seemed to happen in slow motion. She could almost see the transformation of her mother, just.. breaking. She thought of the look on her father's face when he had told her, and then the sound of his voice when she was dismissed from the room and her sister was called in. Jane's brother was already sitting on Jane's bed to give her a hug and to comfort her when she walked in. She wasn't worried about her sister. She wouldn't understand what was going on anyways. Jane thought it was better that way and wished it was the case for herself. Her father had taken their mother to the hospital that night.. She hadn't said much looking back, besides to tell Jane and her siblings that she loved them and would be home soon. Few people asked Jane what was wrong that day at school. She shrugged it off with a simple; "Tiredd" She was so scared that someone would find out about her mother. So scared someone would expose her family and she would never hear the end of it. This wasn't fun. It wasn't fun at all.
