Daddy's Home

Daddy's Home

A Poem by Country Girl47

Mommy, where did daddy go?"
"Is he ever coming home today?"
"Did he forget how to get home?"
"Is he coming home to stay?"

Julie had so many questions
That wanted answered right away.
She had no idea her daddy would
Soon be home, in a couple days.

The only thing she said to Julie
Is, "He will be here, real soon."
"But mommy, in a couple days
It will finally be my birthday."

Mommy smiled and said, "I know."
"A great party it will really be, too."
Julie ran out to play with her friend
They played with dolls, were brand new.

Julie's birthday had finally came
As they gathered around the cake
She made a wish before she blew
The candles out, a taste she'd take.

There was a knock at the door.
Julie was told to close her eyes.
The door slowly opened a crack,
Everyone yelled, "SURPRISE!"

Julie screamed, DADDY!!
She ran over and jumped up
Into his arms saying" I love you!"
Nobody would even interrupt

"Daddy, I just made my wish
That you'd be home today."
"Please don't ever go back
Over sea, I need you to stay."

Everyone had tears in their eyes
They were happy tears for daddy, too.
Now life would be different for them.
Daddy's war was finally through.
