It was in the middle of winter. Wind was blowing hard. Snow was coming down faster, making the roads dangerous to drive on that day. Debbie hated the cold weather, so she decided to just take some time off work. A good time for her to catch up on her crafts and decorate her home for Christmas.
Debbie made some hot chocolate and sat down by the window, to watch for the deer. Felt so relaxed and enjoyed watching different shapes of snowflakes, fall to the ground. Her trees looked beautiful, covered with snow. Finally, a little fawn ran in the yard, with mother, not far behind. They hurried over to eat the dry corn she had left out. Every winter there was food there for them.
She began to fall asleep, after finishing her hot cocoa. Suddenly, began to have a dream. Tried to forget the past, but the nightmares came back to haunt her now and then. In the dream, a man had hurt her and almost strangled her. Tried to get away, but wouldn't let her go. Tried to scream loud, only to be slapped across the face hard, fell to the floor. He was considered a coward in town and very abusive. Suddenly woke up, sweat running down her face.
Decided to take a shower. Hot water running down her body. Tears began to run down her face, she couldn't stop crying. Kept trying to forget the dream, but couldn't. You could smell the fragrance of the ivory soap, as she stood their washing her body. When finally finished, reached for a towel to dry off with.
After getting dressed, decided to start working on her crafts. Put them up for decorations, one at a time. She was starting to really get in the Christmas spirit, when there was a knock on the door. Started to open it, there stood the man in her nightmare. He shoved the door open and pushed her away from the window. Caleb said, "I am now out of jail." Debbie had a tormented look on her face. He said, "I'm back to finish the job. Should have done it a long time ago."
Caleb grabbed some rope and tied Debbies hands together, behind her back. Made her stand up and sit in a chair. He walked out to the kitchen, picked up a knife, then went outside to put it in his van.
Debbie had been dating a cop by the name of Todd. He had been trying to get a hold of her and knew something wasn't right. Every time he called, Debbie was there to answer on the first ring. His shift was almost over. He would have to go and check on her.
Caleb walked back into the room swearing at Debbie and grabbed her long hair. He said, "Listen here, witch! I spent three years in hell because of you. You're going to see what I went through." Tape was put over her mouth, pushed the chair over onto the floor. Then he yanked her to her feet and walked her to the back door and out to the van. She had been shoved and fell to the floor and the door was slammed.
Todd was on his way over. He slowly drives to the corner. On the way over, he noticed her door was cracked open a little ways. He had grabbed his gun and rushed over to the house. He snuck over to the window and peaked in to see the chair tipped over and blood on the floor. Slowly, walked over to the door and pushed it open yelling for Debbie. There was no answer. Every room had been checked. No one was around. A crime scene was now being investigated.
An investigator had first questioned Todd. Police went around door to door asking if anybody had seen anything. Some were to scarred to even answer the door and turned out the lights. Others hadn't seen a thing except one person, whose name was kept private.
He had described the woman as petite, long curly black hair, brown eyes, around 43 years old and was white. Was last seen wearing jeans and a white turtleneck. The other person's face could not be seen. It was a white male, muscular, tall about 6', wearing blue jeans, leather coat and gloves and wearing cowboy boots. A black van with no windows, except the drivers and passenger's side. Was a NY license plate number was KF1-143.
Todd wondered if they had found out anything yet or was this a put on and had been cheating. He didn't think that could be the case.
The investigators soon came in and with the results. No fingerprints except for Debbies and the blood on the floor was hers, too.
An APB was sent out immediately to help find Debbie. People gathered in groups to look in the woods and down by the river. Trained police dogs went hunting with each group.
A man suddenly ran. He had seen a pile of branches just ahead, with a body and he began to yell, "Over here, over here!" When they removed the pile of rubbish underneath. It wasn't Deb, it was an older man.
Everyone had been ordered to move away from the body. They could see he had been shot three times. Immediately taped the area off so nobody could tamper with the evidence.
Mr. Frame , a medical examiner and coroner was called to the crime scene. The man was then pronounced dead and taken to the morgue to be examined.
Back at the police station, Captain F. Mason, Lt. R. Koda and Sgt. P. Dunn, friends of Todd's, called him in for a meeting. They had given him orders to stay out of this investigation since he personally knew Debbie. Todd got upset and asked he not be removed and let him stay on this investigation. Lt. Koda ordered him once again to stay away. Todd said, "under one condition and that's any evidence or information that comes in, I will be notified immediately. All of them agreed.
In the meantime, Caleb had already left the state and was headed to KY. He parked the van in the woods, wiped it down so no trace was left behind.
A black, S10 Chevy was left there for him to use by one of his friends. He cut the rope, tied to Debs hands and told her the tape would be removed and kept off her mouth, if she didn't scream. Deb shook her head and agreed.
Back at the morgue, Mr. Frame spoke to an investigator by the name of T. Peterson. The man that was shot three times, had been dead for three days. Tests were taken and sent to the forensics. The only result he had so far was his blood type, which was O+. Gun shot wound on the left side of the heart, had missed the aorta by a hair. Bullet went through the brain, through the back of the head. A gunshot wound also to the knee. A 32 caliber had been used, the bullet was found back at the crime scene, but needed to go back and see if any more evidence was missed. Results from the forensics would take some time.
