Some Other Beginnings End

Some Other Beginnings End

A Poem by Kelly A. Brown

Some things are so bittersweet,

glorious, yet

devastating,

half the heart joyous and half

the heart breaking in pieces,

for the same sweeping

second

for the exact same

reason.

Like an 18-year old college kid about to

meet his roommate

for the very first time,

so ecstatic,

so scared,

then he steps up on graduation day,

receiving notice of the end that he himself

created, nurtured,

cultivated,

losing

friendships

and memories

and banter

and midnight

conversations

and laughter, oh the laughter

was the best

part,

he doesn't want to leave, but

knows he

must.

The future depends

upon

it.

He says,

I'll miss you, alright.

You meant more to me than

you could ever conceive or

realize.

I love you.

But, one wonderful beginning's

end is some other bitter's end

beginning.

Round and round

the

carousel

goes.

And sometimes

you just have to

take

that

chance.
