Tricked

Tricked

A Poem by Kelly A. Brown

Tricked myself really good during

that year, when the bliss overtook me

like the sun,

believing in the impossible and in

the enchanted and in the

mirage, staying awhile----you know,

just to see how it goes.

Walked down avenues desolate with

unhappy neighbors, thinking all the while that

I've escaped somehow and broke free

from the disease of

heavy heartedness and tainted dreams

and falsity.

Sitting here thinking about

how it was before, the nights that seemed

unwittingly infinite, a prolonged drunken state of

ecstacy, lost in the ideal, gone with the

wind, scattered scribbled poems and spilled wine, all

gone away with the after hours,

and instead I find my body awakening to a

bright new morning---but with

no promises kept and no romantic visions left to

stain my page.

I love the imagery and think that this poem's beautiful in the darker sense of the idea of beauty. It uses a lot of powerful language with the exception of the "you know" in line 6. I really enjoyed reading this poem and hope that you keep on writing!
