Songs of InnocenceA Poem by Kelly A. BrownA poem I wrote about 10 years ago while still in high school. It's a simple exaggeration of a more serious topic.Music notes lay on a sheet Measures written, quicken beat A child sees this page of song Never knowing, playing wrong She pounds her tiny, stubby fists Against the keyboard--Ivory kissed Child bangs sound crispy clear Her brother sits there, swollen tear Droplets, water, then escape From boy's eyelids; Staring, gape Girl makes music; He can too He could make songs That, he knew Mother tramples into room Children see this; Sound of gloom She tells children to stop the noise She tells them to use other toys Little child, dressed in skirt Thought she played well--Feelings hurt Stepping away from music page Dreaming, hoping to vacate cage Little brother--Happy glee! His sister's smile; Gone he see She lays down on great nature's bed Wishing Praying Dreaming Dead Mother wakes her soul up from The deepest sadness had become Maybe she was harsh before After all, the girl is only four Mother walks back into room of fun But all she sees is child's gun Then there lying on the couch Next to brother; Bleeding mouth Only music could be known To describe the joyful; Painless tone The piano still plays on and on And reminds the mother; Children gone © 2014 Kelly A.
