Cover Her EarsA Poem by CJ
Cover Her Ears The little girl, Maybe nine or ten, Sits upon her bed, Tears streaming down her face, Listening to their shouting and yells. Cover her ears! She shouldn’t have to hear this. These hurtful words, Being thrown in the other room, For one to another. She is just a child, Who needs the loving care Of her two parents. Except now, The love is gone from this house. The yelling stops, A door is slammed, An engine roars, Then vanishes. All that is left to hear, Are the cries the child makes. A tiny knock comes to the door, And a head pops in. It is her mom, Looking just like the girl, With a crying, tearful face. She comes to the girl, And curls up with her on the bed. They both just cry in silence. Just six words are spoken, “I’m sorry, honey. I love you” © 2008 CJReviews
