CountdownA Poem by CJ
Countdown As midnight approaches, I watch the clock. 11:56 An empty silence fills the halls, As I am the only awake. No creaking, Or TV. No whispers from one to another. No music, Nothing whatsoever. 11:57 Darkness is filling my sight, There is little of what I can see. There is only light from my room, And the rest of the house is dark, With the emptiness of the black. 11:58 The air tastes of nothing, Just normal and bland. I feel only what is in my reach, No movement from feet going down the hall, Room to room. I smell nothing, No cooking, Filling the air with midnight snack smells. 11:59 I watch my clock intently, Waiting for the hour to change, And bring a new day. I hear it ticking away, Reminding me that the seconds go slowly by. Not too fast, But always seeming too slow. I feel anticipation, Building up inside of me. I smell the excitement in the air, From me eagerly waiting for the next day. The taste of nothing even seems exciting. I salute the ending. 12:00 A new day. And with the countdown complete, I make my way to greet the beginning. © 2008 CJReviews
