A Chapter by Why Nori

In 2057 the world’s scientists announced to the world that the water supply would run out in 20 years. The population on earth was nearing ten billion; the overcrowding of cities caused widespread plagues. There were no longer cities located inland, because the only source of fresh water came from desalination factories located along the coasts of every continent. Water prices had sky rocketed in the past years and after the announcement the price of water nearly tripled toping nearly 500 dollars a gallon. The world was on the brink of all-out war.

In 2059 a mission to colonize Mars began. It took three years to prepare a ship and crew for the journey. Once the journey to Mars had been completed the crew set up a station, complete with a station to create fuel to power all the equipment. On the surface mini farms where built to create their own food source. In the beginning all was good. Then a year after it began complications arose. Unlike Earth, Mars has very few defenses from the outside. The long term exposure to radiation took its toll. Six months in and half the fifty man crew had died or developed cancer. By the end of the year everyone on the crew had died except Col. Johnathon Fitz; the crews captain. Col. Fitz had decided living under ground afforded the best chance of staying alive. The iron rich Martian surface provided excellent and convenient protection from the radiation of the sun. He only ventured to the surface to water plants and collect the food which was being rocketed in every week from Earth. Due to his stent on Mars Col. Fitz would be unable to travel back to Earth because the decreased gravity on Mars had weakened him. For the next 2 years Col. Fitz lived knowing he would die there, until in 2064 when word of a new project to the ice moon Titan and a chance for him to leave the planet. This project was known as the water extraction of Titan, W.E.T. for short. On the way they would travel to Mars to refuel and in doing so would pick up the Col. This project involved three ships; Domus, Invenio, and the Faveo.
