Blackout

Blackout

A Poem by The Cosmos and Chaos

heart racing
is it the blood, the adrenaline,
or the fear?
it's dark and cold in the community bathroom
as he pulls off her tank top
and pushes her to the ground

thud.

head thumping,
hands shaking, her pants slide unbuttoned
black out,
come to
and back out again
her intestines seem to throw themselves
inside out
as if they are screaming to get away
just as she did
her heart sinks to her chest
blood pools on the floor
bruises form on her body
and she can't see straight anymore
head bobbling
legs weak
he leads her to another room

laughing

black out
come to
it's not a dream.
it's not a dream.
but he's gone.
it's over.
for now.

This one puts you exactly in the middle of a rape from the victim's point of view. The staccato delivery and rapid fire images force the reader to conjure the scene mentally. Totally horrifying. The last two lines divulge a greater truth. The assault itself may be over, but the victim will relive it mentally for the rest of her life. Very well done.
