On a Dark and Empty StreetA Poem by Cory ScottHorror poem about ones untimely passingEarly in the morning While most are asleep A tired woman wanders home alone On a dark and empty street The moon shines down from above In the grass the crickets tweet And unknown to the wandering woman A phantom stranger lurks in the trees Early in the morning While most are asleep A tired woman wanders home alone Unknowingly being pursued relentlessly Feeling a sense of paranoia She turns on her feet Finding herself staring At only a dark and empty street She turns back around and quickens her pace Aiming to make it home with the utmost haste Early in the morning While most are asleep A frightened woman hurries home alone On a dark and empty street From behind her a phantom stranger emerges Out from behind the trees It whispers her name, sending chills down her spine Causing her to turn around and utter a piercing shriek Early in the morning While most are asleep A terrified woman stares death in the eyes And learns her soul is to be reaped She begs and pleads to live out more days But the reaper responds , "Nay," "For three hours ago in your sleep You passed away." Early in the morning While most are asleep A woman's body is discovered alone in a house On a dark and empty street
