The Tragic Story of Steven and DeborahA Story by Cory StonestreetIt was a chilly evening in February. The day was none other than the wonderful, heart-warming Valentines Day. Everybody was out and about with their loved ones enjoying themselves, except for two couples. They were both at St.John's Memorial Hospital. The men were sitting beside their wives comforting them while the two young women were lying on the beds in the hospital giving birth to their beautiful newborn babies. In one room was Bill and Joyce who just saw their baby boy for the first time. They held him with tears of joy in their eyes. They decided to name him Steven. In the other room was another couple, Joseph and Rhonda. They held in their arms a baby girl. With love in their eyes they gave her the name Deborah. On the way home from the hospital, the two families were in a terrible car accident on Route 74 along with twelve other vehicles. Shockingly the two newborn babies, Steven and Deborah, were the only survivors of that devastating car wreck. The two terrified children were taken to the hospital to be checked out for any injuries and they were completely healthy. They were sent that evening to a foster care home. The next morning, headlines for the newspaper read "MIRACLE: 2 Newborn Babies Survive 12 Vehicle Accident!!!". The nice woman who ran tghe foster care homehad bought two of the newspapers and framed them. She hung one over the head of each of the surviving children's beds. She kissed them bopth goodnight and had went to bed. Ten years later, Steven and Deborah had already been adopted and forgotten all about each other. Steven was adopted by a drunk man and Deborah was taken in by an abusive mother. Neither of them had a very happy life. Although Steven and Deborah had lived a horrible life, they were both really kind people. One day while Steven was at school, an announcement came across the intercom announcing that there was a new girl attending his school. Later that afternoon, Steven was at the lunch table. He was sitting with his friends socializing when he couldn't help but to notice a beautiful girl sitting at a table alone in the corner with a depressed look on her face. He got up and walked over and introduced himself to her. He asked her what her name was and she told him that it was Deborah but she goes by Debbie. He invited her to come over and hang out with him and his friends. One day, Debbie came into school covering her face crying. Steven saw her and he asked her what was wrong. She pulled her hands away from her face to reveal that she had a black eye. He asked her what had happened and she told him that her moms boyfriend had hit her in attempt to rape her. She told him that she got out of the house and that she'd been wandering around all night because she didn't feel safe going back home. He then wrapped his arms around her to comfort her while she lay her head on his shoulder crying out her pain. He asked her if she has reported this to anybody and she shouted no. She begged him not to tell anybody because she was terrified that if he did than he would make it worse. He looked at her and promised that he would respect her wishes. Months had went by and there were many times when she walked in with bruises, cuts, and burns all over her. One day he grew tired of seeing her come in like that so he went over and talked to her and he begged her to report the abuse to the local police department. She absolutely refused to tell anybody else and made him promise not to tell anybody either, so he did. Years went by and Steve and Debby grew closer and closer. Towards the end of their senior year in high school, they fell in love with each other. Every day after school, they went over to Steven's house. One day that they were at his house, they went up to the attic and decided to stay up there for a while. Debby came across a familiar picture frame. It contained the newspaper from the car wreck seventeen years ago. She asked him why he had it and him not thinking anything of it looked at it and told her that he was one of those babies that survived the wreck. She looked at him with a shocked expression on her face. She replied saying that she was the other baby. He turned around and looked at her with the same expression that she was looking at him with. A tear fell from her eye as she told him how amazing it was that God has brought them back together. He looked at her and agreed as he prepared to kiss her in amazement. That night, she ended up staying at his house. They fell asleep in each others arms. Years went by and after high school and college, they were still together. They ended getting married on Valentines Day the year after graduating college. They had a baby girl and named her Harmony. When Harmony was six years old, Steven went off to serve in the army. Five years went by and he hasn't made it back home to Deborah and Harmony. One rainy evening, Harmony was out with her friends when on the drive home, the car that she was in was hit by a drunk driver. Everybody in that wreck was killed. Steven and Deborah were soon called about the accident. Lucky for Steven, he was already almost home from Iraq. Whenever Steven and Deborah received the bad news, they both were rushing on the way to the hospital. They were driving so fast that before they could realize it, they crashed into each other. They both saw a white light flash before their eyes. When they lifted their heads up after being so frightened, they were both in this big white room. Deborah asked in a confused voice "Where am I?" She heard a voice come from behind her telling her that she was in Heaven. It was her parents. She asked them where Steven was and they turned around and pointed at a man crouching down comforting a little girl. It was Steven an Harmony. They walked over to him and before they were able to say a word, Steven got up and ran to Deborah. She introduced him to her parents and they told him where he was. They went back over to Harmony and Steven asked where his parents were and before they could answer, a near voice said "We're over here." They told him that they loved him and that they missed him. Then they walked over to Deborah, Harmony, and Deborah's parents. They all held hands and walked farther into the light.
