Caged

I’ve always lived in fear, never trusting my heart.

For a long time I lived as an animal who was caged

and never saw the light of day.

The sun that used to give comfort seemed so far away

 that it's warmth never touched my soul.

How long I lived without happiness.

Believing now I am happy it’s a hard concept

to accept.

How I gave myself all away,

every piece now returned.
