God's Country

God's Country

A Poem by Corset

An Orphaned girl sits cross-legged on a pew
and learns to live her life on the generosity of others
in God's country where there are as many churches
as Redbuds,
as unresolved attachments
as many as power lines resembling the Cross
on a stretch of dry and dying land.
get you an Italian buffet and wrap it around your neck
whisper in darkness where darkness no longer lingers
crack you open inside my head
dream of a grassy hillside swelling on the horizon
but to create such a willful change
from dying brown to rolling green
 in three days
well, that's a miracle and something to witness
all it took was a simple prayer
 for rain.
to live again
in the land of misfits and old wagon wheels
is the most beautiful place in the world.
Thankful for the slightly weird and their struggle
in extremes
all badges of courage and fortitude
for they make the world honest and clean
 who could trust a replica
I thought I'd speak of funerals
I thought I would tell you that I really
thought that front door would save you
but it didn't,
walking out of it did.

Be blessed and have a phenomenal time communing, you have the answer already.
It is amazing how a day or two of rain will change the color from dusty beige to vibrant green. though there is much more to this piece than lawn care tips. This was just as amazing. I enjoyed this.

I love this staza. I have aleays said that grass is the greatest miracle. it can dry up, get trampled on and still survive.

Blades are beautiful, man! mowing sucks tho! I have found out by necessity. lol
Takes huge courage to walk out on everything you've known, but sometimes you just have to follow your heart. Why remain in a place that does nothing for you. The horizon looks brighter. I left the church behind too. Far too judgemental for me. Nothing like Jesus. Aoveky piece of writing Corset.

Thank you Chris, I haven't been (other than funerals) in quite a while myself.
Maybe this is Emily Dickinson....and what saved her was walking out of the church at 30 years old and never going back.
Maybe it is her badge of courage and fortitude...
she was honest with herself and others...she just could not believe...and she just never saw the miracle that could convince her.
