"Hope". Is The Thing With Feathers is one of the best known of Emily Dickinson's poems. An extended metaphor, it likens the concept of hope to a feathered bird that is permanently perched in the soul.
yes yes yes! its that spark that drives us inward and the more we understand in that journey .. turns hearts towards others .. with love and charity selflessly given .. it lifts the giver as well ... i love this encouraging, spirit filled poem/prose ... filled with wisdom as simple and complex as a single blade of grass .. a much needed message Corset! well done! thanks for sharing!
Hope, love, and kindness are the missing link in a lot of lives. To renew the mind is the key, and though not always easy to turn, it may open a door to something that hasn't been seen in a long while. Does the universe listen to our thoughts? I believe it does. After years of negative thoughts It may be a challenge but it can be done.

I believe it does also , Thank you Relic, nice to see you writing still.
I agree my dear friend.
"and time again
It's called love
its purpose
is called
Hope,"
All of us have the need to know kindness and be kind. Thank you dear Corset for sharing your amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Hi Coyote! Thank you for always brightening our day with your visits!
Deep stuff here. The Hindus have a word, Atman, that means that part of Brahman (God) which is incarnated in each human consciousness. I think you are getting at something like that here, though the human emotions you attribute to it seem to be more characteristic of the feeling nature, or subconscious mind. I will have to think on this one, because some emotions seem more spiritual to me than others.

Emily wrote often of birds, of hope, of salvation, even though she professed not to believe in God.
I like this poem and the use of soul...not so much as a religious thing, but instead that which is inside us that is our spirit, our own hope...that which we use to move forward on our own...
I'll ask Emily what day it is.
