Wings

Wings

A Poem by Corset
"

"Hope". Is The Thing With Feathers is one of the best known of Emily Dickinson's poems. An extended metaphor, it likens the concept of hope to a feathered bird that is permanently perched in the soul.

"
Everyone born has a God spark inside them
every single person has a soul
an awareness of self,
no matter how dark that space is inside you
there lives a gleam of magnificence,
a star that shines, that beckons for truth
for goodness, for mercy, for compassion
it's up to you to listen, to know its there
to search for it,
it is there,
it is
even in what we many consider the least worthy
it is there
longing for you to find it
and to embrace it till it flows forth
with such brilliance that it pours forth
in either voice or tears
when you are on the floor
it is what makes you lift your head
one more time
and time
and time again
It's called love
its purpose
is called
Hope,
give it wings
help it to spread
give it to someone
let it fly.

Thank you Albee, like lemmings we all go
Self? What is it really? Is it always respectable? Reflective? Does the self spend all of one's leisure time proper or concerned about it. In this age of Covid, what self is good for the rest of us> Is the self a curve?
"If a curve is continuous between between two intercepts it's tangent is parallel to the axis at some point. Or better said, is self a straight line like the string of dental floss you pull out swiftly? After reading your beautiful words my friend, I sure hope that self has a ceiling like a big giant room full of books with chapters you can open to to find yourself.....And your words ring true.....Self is nothing but love....dana

This is incredibly inspirational. I mean, I could practically feel a growing warmth in my chest.
And now I'm back to reality and have got shivers.

I always love your hair 🍂

Anyone who cannot perceive there is a greater consciousness (God, if you will) in charge of it all, who believes everything is by mere chance, never seriously took a good look around themselves with any true sense of curiosity, never really grasped that their own existence proves it's so. Nor, have they sincerely asked how it's possible a pine tree or a sparrow can be the same as the others of their genre, yet, each one individually different, same as everything existing.
It would seem you're every bit as spiritual (if not more-so) as I am, but for some reason not in the strict sense of Christian dogma … just something between your lines.
The one thing that should be undeniably true, to any human with half a brain, is the enthralling wonder of love … even though it is dulled to a meager glimmer in many of us by the droll, blindness to it by the sheer societal conditioning of a three dimensional, materialistic lifestyle, all too often, void of adequate spiritual blossoming.
Watch animals and you can see them sharing love, and not only mammals, but certain birds, etc; especially, dogs and cats, and not only between themselves, but flowing between them and humans, as-well.
Aw, heck, I got so carried away, I forgot to thank you for sharing your beautiful poetry and Stacy Chapman's splendidly sung Dylan song … love your spot-on title, too … what's better than spreading the preciousness of love/hope set free, soaring everywhere, carried on the widespread universal wings of poetry.

With love 'n hugs, Dear Corset! ⁓ Richard 🍃

Thank you tremendously for those comments Gee
Even though this is a simple structure, the word choice and building of the image in the mind was very touching.
I unfortunately have some health challenges in my life, and this resonated strongly with how I think of myself as fighting against it. Thank you.
