Just Breathe

Just Breathe

A Poem by Corset
"

For Laura

"
Don't be afraid I tell her, the meek will inherit
we are just here to observe to live this story
no one knows when the calling comes
when it does, the best we can do is meet it
with as much dignity as we can muster.
I want to to comfort her, I want to pretend I know
I want to lie and say everything will be fine
I want to make her promises that aren't mine to make,
because I don't know.
what I do know is that I will see another autumn,
I have smelled it on the air
after that I'm blind to what may become of me.
I want to tell her to cling to her prayers
because I've never been a fatalist, I'm a believer
if it comes, it's just your turn and all you can
hope for is this;
Did you love enough to be ready?
Find one thing, just one every day
that you would miss about this world
that you want to remember about those you love,
so you can take it with you
so you can tell about it in the next...
what you loved
how you loved it and why you loved it.
Gather it to yourself and wrap your heart in it
so that you can take it with you, should you be lucky
enough to leave
before it gets really ugly out there,
Should humanity forget what makes us human.

I want to tell her
We've come through way worse with much less,
so don't be afraid,
be brave, and remember what has conquered
time and again in the histories of this Earth,
The human spirit.
The will to live, to cling to life
don't give way to the fear, fear is a powerful emotion
don't let it become the catalist
Make it the power behind your prayer,
the human will is to never give up on life
breath is life, just breathe love...
just breathe in love.

This is soooo beautiful... Thank you, with all my heart, Thank you! I truly do believe God sent you as my guardian angel today...This touched my heart to tears. I felt the message in each line.. I felt my heart re-fuel, my brain...it sighed a deep breath. Your healing words are a precious treasure.... Oh my gosh....Thank you soooooo much!

Thank you for tour kind comments , hang in there , we are all in this together!
its such a helpless feeling to sit with a loved one and try to comfort them during a time of great loss .. i was about 7 yrs old when i first went to a funeral .. one of my good buddies lost his Dad to a heart attack. After all the services everyone met at their home .. i felt so numb and out of place .. had no idea what to say to my friend .. i think i simply avoided him .. he was with his Ma most of the time anyway :( your poem is very uplifting ... the breath...the breathing throughout your poem is comfort enough says i ... wrapping it in vulnerable honest words and feelings are all of the best we can do in such times ... except just sitting with .. in silence .. sharing pain :((( i am moved by "Just Breathe" ...lots of sound wisdom :)

Wow! This reads like someone else is loosing their grip and you have done well to drag your insight to paper and poem like a dying Sammy Davis Jr. drug his final song to where it all began. Because "humanity never forgot what made him human". I've never read you more powerful than this. dana

Love is all you need.
Sweeping and epic words. Imagery becomes reality - I remember it well.

Miss you

So nice to see you, thank you for stopping in . Take care of each other.
This stole my breath away and rendered me so very moved. We can only love and be loved, appreciate the small mercies and in-betweens because those in-betweens and small mercies are actually everything. Nothing is promised and that includes tomorrows, beautifully expressed Corset, remarkable emotion woven here with such tenderness.

Thank you Ruth for such wonderful words
maybe love could be the real remedy...if we love each other enough unselfishly, we may get through this crisis.
but yes, as this poem indicates...it is so hard to give others words of hope when we doubt them ourselves.
