The world

The world

A Poem by Corncrake
"

First attempt at a poem

"

Leap over the brambles, the thistles and briar
over brooks, in the air hair red flickering fire
canopy rushing
stop, climb, the stile
and again off, to where Annabel lies
push aside branches, brush away weeds
moving too long, sweet white cheeks blushing
too fast mine too are flushing

But then out
into
the open air

A sweeping
sleeping
ocean

An expanse that raises to drop to meet
mere moments away the world ends beneath our feet
and yet we could lie in these clover-beds
with the stars a roof above our heads
we gaze at the moon glows yellow in the riptide
two hearts they beat, side by side
as the waves race to the shore
as the grass rushes forevermore

and we’ll lie with swifts swooping high
bereft the weight of their summer coats
couldn’t care for the rising tides
feel the grass beneath your toes
and wind rushes off the water
watch our secret sunset, destroy the skies.

And we could lie here, forevermore
when waves rush upon the shore
a million lives away from where we lie
The fiery cloudlight, burns the sky
Two hearts beating side by side
Golden winds rush off a riptide

The world it ends beneath our feet
A million miles from, beacon street
The world behind us, comes to naught
A million wars in anguish fought
A single light matters here today
The light of the moon upon this bay.
