Like Ticks

Like Ticks

A Poem by Mary

Insecurities like ticks

     are buried in my skin

In my brain

     You set them loose

In our home

     In my home

And when you left

     (me)

You forgot to take them

     with you

And now they've

     embedded

Themselves in me

     So whenever I speak

They dig a little deeper

     Whenever I care

They bite a little harder

     make me bleed

A little more

     But I have resolved

To dig them out

     I'm ready

I've got my scalpel

     my peroxide

And my bandage

     And when it's done

You'll be completely

     gone

About
Much of my poetry is about addiction. It played a huge, if not the only, role for many years of my life. I'm now a recovering addict, clean for over a year. I'm also recovering from self-mutilation, w.. more..
