TrappedA Story by CoolCatRevengeA story describing One of the Hunted
I heard my heart pounding, despite trying obstinately to pick up some sound, to get some indication of where I was, where I had to go, and most importantly, where they were. they might come after me, I thought. they might, if they even care. No matter, i have to get away.
I ran as far away from the direction i thought was my village and planned to camp at my old camping spot. I tried again to hear something, anything, that gave away that they were following up, but there was nothing. that could mean 3 things, I realised. either I'm not hearing them, or they're not following me. or a third possibility which was so horrendously scary that I didn't dare think about. If it was true, then id no chance anyway. so I figured I might as well not bother my tired, shaken brain with such pointless and disturbing thoughts, and focus on the already very troubling task of navigating my way down to the camping spot. I took out my map and compass and calculated the bearing. I then used a special technique my camp instructor had taught me, a very ingenious one, set your bearing of to the left, so you know that your destination is on the right (unless you somehow manage to change from left right and walk 90 degrees off bearing). my brain still hurt trying to recollect and capture on what was happening. it all seemed so surreal. like a story you're reading, yet now you're one of the characters I made my way through the thicket and burst into a clearing. i caught my breath for a few seconds, but not for too long. I told myself I had a long way to go, and had to keep moving otherwise they might find me. I still hadn't heard any signs of pursuit but I didn't know whether that was a good thing or not. they were masters of the art of occult, they could be right here right now, l could not tell. they were the most deceitful creatures, adept to the blending in with nature, surreptitious like wolves yet adaptable like camaleons. I didn't just fear them. They petrified me, even when i just thought about them.
i finally, after a lot of stumbling and clumsily hopping over vines and thickets, managed to reach the camp-site. I was filled with joy and pride that id been able to get there without being caught. However, my joy was ephemeral, because what was there was my worst fear come true. they were there. they'd beaten me. worst of all, I didn't have anywhere else to go. Suddenly I heard triumphant, inhuman howling behind me. A sudden realization dawned over me, looming over me like a magnificent building would loom over an insignificant rock. They'd found me. I had no where to go even if I could escape these all-affecting cataclysmic monsters. Id been caught. I was trapped. © 2012 CoolCatRevengeAuthor's Note
