An alarm rang out in the bedroom, from the middle of the room a boy got out of bed and walked over to the corner of the room where the alarm clock was and shut it off. The boy looked at the clock it read 7:30 AM, the boy grunted at the clock and walked up stairs only wearing boxers, he walked by the dinning room, through the kitchen and left into the bathroom. He looked in the mirror, his brown hair was a mess covering his eyes and all over the place. He walked over to the shower and turned the water on and started the shower. The boy jumped in the shower, and about 15 minutes later he turned that water off. The towel was hung just over the bar holding the shower curtain up, the boy grabbed the towel and started drying himself off. The shower curtain was pulled open and he stepped out of the bathtub, and switched on the ceiling fan. Looking in the mirror his hair was all upwards and messy. He grabbed the hairbrush beside the tap, and started brushing his hair. He parted his hair at the middle and brushed his hair to the sides to keep his hair from getting in his eyes, but his hair was long and thick enough that it just barely stayed out of his hair. Wrapping the towel around his waist, he walks to the door and opens it. Then makes his way back down the hall and down the stairs to his room. The boy went to his dresser and pulled out the clothes he needed for the day, which was the school uniform that consisted of a pair of black jeans, and a white t-shirt with the school crest on it, plus a pair of socks and boxers. After he was dressed we walked over to his closet and pulled out a black long coat and put it on.

The boy made his way back up the stairs, and quietly rushed to the front door, he slipped his running shoes on and grabbed a backpack and went out the door. Walked down the front stairs and turned right, and started to run down the side of the road. Just as he made it to the corner of the road, he looked off to his right and seen that the bus was just leaving. Giving of a sigh, the boy turned left and started to run.

About 35 minutes later the boy entered the front door of his school panting. The school halls were empty, but looking across the hall through the gym door window, he sees all the students sitting in seats, as well as the bleachers pulled out and students gathering to sit on them. The boy rushed down the hall and went in the door, this door lead to the gym just that it is on the other side of the gym away from the stage where the principle was standing at the podium.

“I was wondering when you were going to show up Leo.” A taller boy said, light brown hair with a slim build.

“I missed the bus, so whats going on here Rowan?” The boy said.

“Well I think it has to do with the current events.” Rowan said looking at the podium.

“What do you mean by current events, you mean the war?” Leo said following Rowans gaze at the podium.

“Yeah, I think the school is being ordered to train to prepare us for a fight.”

“Hm.... I don't-”

“Let's start the assembly.” The principle cut Leo off and everyone who could find a seat sat down, the rest stood at the back of the gym.

Leo and Rowan were two of the people who stood at the back of the gym. Everyone waited silently for the principle to start talking.

“This assembly is about the war that is going on. Most of you should know that is going on by now. The reason why no one is out at night anymore. The Devil's forces are starting to retaliate. Vampire's, werewolves, imps and any other creature that walks in the night you can think of is roaming are streets at night. Now no one has reported that they have attacked, but its only a matter of time. We are going to be training you all today so if you ever get caught out in the dark you can defend yourselves enough to get away from whatever attacks you.” The Principle began to say.

Everyone started to whisper at each other in excitement, saying how awesome training is going to be. Everyone but Leo and Rowan who stood back against the wall.

“Do you think they know something that we don't?” Leo asked Rowan, as his gaze stayed on the principle.

“I don't know, why would you say that?” Rowan replied.

“Because I was out last night and it seems that more and more of these creatures are starting to roam around. I'm pretty sure it won't be long until the day walkers start to show up.” Leo said.

“Alright, alright! Be quiet! Let me finish and we can get on with the training.” The principle said.

It took a bit for everyone to quiet down. Slowly everyone stopped whispering until the last clueless person was told to shut up and the gym was silent yet again.

“Now for today we have a few special guests from the church, plus a few demonologists to tell you about some of there weak spots-”

“Ha! So all we need is a wooden stake, and a silver bullet and we're all set.” A student in the front row interrupted the Principle.

Leo took the opportunity to take the spotlight, he stood up off of the wall and raised his voice so that he could be heard throughout the whole school.

“That was funny, I guess you think you're an expert on all this. I bet your a coward who is in the house two hours before the sun goes down because he is to afraid of the dark!” Leo said as he walked down the rows of chairs. The principle looked pissed at the two students for interrupting him.

“Hey who do you think you are!” The student stood up and faced Leo.

“Tell me something, have you ever been out at night recently?” Leo asked as he walked to the front of the gym.

“N...no.” The student stuttered.

Leo now stood in front of him. Before the boy could react Leo had grabbed him by the collar and lifted him into the air. “First of all a wooden stake would be too slow, you'd be dead before you even tried to stab them with it, plus it wouldn't work, these vampires have no hearts. You have to disembody them. Second guns don't work on werewolves there skin is too thick, the bullet wouldn't even penetrate it, and if you think that is all you have to worry about out there, their are things out there at night scarier than them.” Leo dropped the student on his feet.

As Leo turned to the stage the boy punched him in the back of the head. The whole gym gasped as Leo fell forward, but didn't fall down, Leo straightened himself and quicker than anyone believed was possible Leo turned, grabbed the boy by the throat, picked him up and slammed him to the ground, with a second later a sword drawn to the boy's throat.

“As I said, you wouldn't last five seconds.” Leo sneered at the student and stood back up and faced the principle. “Well I'm up and answering questions, I might as well ask you one. Why all of a sudden are the students training if it's forbidden for them to go out at night. Is there something you know and aren't telling us?”

The principle's face changed in an instant from pissed off, to furious. “That is exactly why we are training everyone today! Now go back to the gym and stay quiet!” The principle yelled, and Leo turned and walked to the back of the gym and set himself beside Rowan.

“Well you showed that kid, but did you really have to turn on the principle?” Rowan whispered to Leo.

“I thought he was going to hide something.” Leo responded.

The principle looked around and when he seen that everyone was listening he began to speak. “Now before I was interrupted, the reason for the training is that last night a few people went missing. We also have some people that have seen an increase in demon activity, which makes us believe that soon enough they will act and start killing people, so we need to be ready for an attack. All the students here will be split into two groups, the people at the back and the people on the bleachers will head out to the parking lot where you will meet your trainers and the rest of you will go to the football field. You can all go now.” The principle ended the assembly.

Everyone got up out of there seats and rushed for the doors. Every one who was standing was already out the back doors of the gym. Leo and Rowan were walking down the hall to get to the parking lot.

“Hey wait, wanna come to my locker there is no way I am carrying this bag around all day if I don't have to.” Leo said.

“Yeah sure I'm not interested in the introduction to everything.” Rowan replied.

They turned down a hall and went half way down it and stopped at the locker 1305. Leo started turning the knob on the combination lock.

“So how does it feel to be a soldier now?” Leo asked.

“What do you mean we are learning self defence.” Rowan replied.

“Yeah you think it will end there, why do you think you gained these powers, you and everyone else here will be called upon the day Lucifer rises up from hell starts to command his army to fight against him.”

“And who's side will you choose?”

“Look I stumbled upon my sword, I didn't wake up like you and almost everyone else and was able to do things that you weren't able to before. I don't owe anything to anyone. I'll remain neutral.”

“Really, than why are you out at night killing off creatures?”

Leo threw his bag into the locker and faced Rowan. “I said I was neutral, which means I'm not on there side either. Alright lets get out to the parking lot, I don't feel like getting yelled at.”

“Yeah me either.” Rowan replied and they walked down the hall the same way they just walked down.

They made there way through up the hall, and opened a door to the outside, they seen the group of people. Walking over to the group, they noticed a tall muscular man, he was bald and wearing a light brown suit, he was talking to the group of students. It was one of the vice principles. Two more people stood behind him, one a priest, he was shorter than the bald man, but still tall. He wore a priest's gown, with a cross hanging from his neck. The second was a woman slender and toned, all the guys were looking at her, but she had a professional look to her, she wouldn't make eye contact with anyone. She was wearing combat gear, dark brown shorts and tank top, her long hair matched the colour of her hair. Leo and Rowan stuck to the back of the group.

The vice principle finished what he was saying and gestured to the priest, and the priest stepped up. “Hello, my name is father Joseph, I will be educating you all in demons and how they act and react to things like crosses, and other items that will weaken demons, and if you're feeling really courageous, how to trap them. Anyway I wanted to be brief here is your combat teacher.” He finished saying and looked over to the woman and stepped back.

The woman walked up, and stood straight looking at the group. “So who thinks they know how to fight?” The woman said.

“I know I can fight.” This one boy stepped out in front of the woman.

“Alright hit me then, I'll even let you use a weapon against me unarmed.” The woman said.

“Ha, this is going to be easy, I'm the quickest there is.” The boy laughed as he pulled out two sai and started spinning them around.

The boy slashed at the woman with great speed it almost looked like his arm disappeared for a split second, but his arm was stopped in mid air and flipped over the woman. He was slammed to the ground in seconds.

“No, you think you can fight.” The woman said to the boy.

She stood up and faced the crowed and disregarded the boy she just took down. “Alright, my name is Amelia, and I am your combat instructor. I'll teach you how to train yourselves and teach you how to master your skills, plus what situation to be offensive and defensive. Anyway, I'll see you on the field.” Amelia said and stepped back.

The vice principle stepped back up and instructed everyone to follow Amelia and father Joseph down the street to the soccer field. Amelia and father Joseph waved the group to follow them, the boy Amelia took down was helped up afterwards and taken inside. The instructors lead the group across the parking lot to the road, and then turned and followed the sidewalk down the hill. The other side of the road was filled with trees and bushes, it would be difficult to move around in for anyone. They got to the bottom of the hill and there was the soccer field next to the mini forested area.

She's probably going to make us fight in there Leo thought to himself. The whole group crossed the street, since the road was never really busy during the day. The two instructors walked to the center of the soccer field, even though there was more area than just the lines indicating the boundary's of the soccer field.

“Alright sit down!” Amelia yelled out.

Everyone dropped to the ground instantly, since they all seen what she did to that kid, no one was going to second guess her. “Alright father Joseph is going to start with a brief lecture on the creatures you could run into at night.” Amelia said as Father Joseph started walking back and forth almost like he was in a class room.

“So we'll start with what you think is the basics. Can anyone tell me how to kill a vampire?” Father Joseph looked at the group.

“Um, stabbing it in the heart.” One girl spoke up.

“That is one way, but can someone tell me the easiest way.”

“You slash it's head off.” Leo said as his hand was raised in the air.

“Very good, now how about werewolves?” Father Joseph

“Couldn't you just slash there heads off?” Another student asked a boy this time.

“You could but it's not always a good idea, because when you cut their head off they start to spasm, and the body thrashes around. You could get hurt if you do that. In an open area where you can get away yes, but it isn't ideal in a closed area.” Father Joseph explained. “Now there are other ways you can kill a werewolf, but the best way is to try and be evasive and just stab at it and let it bleed out, or if you have the chance get one good slash and open it up and let it's insides fall out. Now there are other creatures out there that you can't use physical force to kill them. You will need holy relics, at the end of the day you all will be issued a cross, a prayer book, and a jar of holy water. For the holy water please come by the church at anytime to get some when you run out, free of charge. Now to test you so you know when to use it, what creatures are you to use holy water on.”

Leo stood up “I think I might know all of them.” he said as he looked to the ground.

“Alright lets see.” Father Joseph replied.

“Alright, well first of all I'm pretty sure holy water is used to paralyse demonic creatures momentarily which gives you enough time to press the cross to them, that will stun them and give you enough time to exercise them by using a verse from the prayer book. It's all used together to take a demon down, it isn't my favourite way to do things but that is how you use those three items.” Leo said as everyone from the group looked up at him like they all already knew that.

“Very good, what is your name boy?” Father Joseph said in a calm and polite tone.

“My name is Leo, Leo Forsythe.” Leo replied.

“Thank you, I just have one question for you Leo. What did you mean by using the holy items aren't your favourite way to get rid of the demons?” Joseph asked.

“Well exercising demons don't kill them, it just sends them back to where they came from. Me personally, I would rather kill them so they don't come back.” Leo replied.

“But wouldn't you have to kill the person as well?”

“Yeah, but when it comes to exorcism the person rarely ever lives, the demon usually kills the person before they are sent back to hell, or would you prefer to summon the demon and make it show its true self to you, and fight it like that?”

“Well I've never heard someone doing that.”

“Yeah it isn't easy, that's why.”

“Wait, you've fought a demon in it's true form?” Amelia walked up beside Joseph with a stern look on her face.

“Yeah once, it was just last year, you all should know about it. A group of priests found it.” Leo answered as everyone gasped.

“No way, you couldn't have taken down a demon on your own.” Amelia said surprised.

“I'm not lying, I didn't even summon it.” Leo began to say as he told his story.

I was out one night killing imps trying to improve my skills. All of a sudden the earth started to shake a bit, but stopped quickly. Then after the earthquake, fire burst out of the ground, it formed a circle with a five pointed star in it. After that I could hear something snarling, and I near went insane from what I could sense in the fire. The beast rose up from the fire, it had grayish brown skin, huge horns, eyes that glowed a crimson red, a pigs nose, and a mouth full of fangs. This one had four massive arms and a pair of goat legs. When the fire went out it instantly locked its gaze on me. That is when I felt hells fury. That demon was fast, it grabbed me before I could even realize what had happened and threw me at the ground. I slammed into the ground and bounced off the dirt, the demon caught me again in mid air and flung me into the air. I realized if anything that this would be my only chance at attacking. I stabilized myself in the air and as I was falling all four arms were reaching out to crush me. Just then I took a chance and threw my sword down towards it's throat. The sword flew like a bolt of lightning and pierced the demon's throat. All four arms started to wave around, just when I thought I was going to have a safe landing, one of the arms batted me away and I hit the ground rolling. I got up a little disoriented, but recovered quickly and found my sword wedged into the ground and the demon was rushing towards me. I had to act fast and my sword was on the other side of the mountainous beast running toward me. So I took the gamble and charged towards the sword, I ran at the demon with great speed. It stopped and waited for me. I know I should have been defensive but I kept running towards the demon, as I approached it all four arms started to rise and came down swiftly. I started to slow down, when the four hands hit the ground it launched me into the air and flying towards the demon. Then one of the arms grabbed me and threw me to the ground once more. I figured he would just keep doing this until I was near death. I slammed into the ground, before I could try and get up again I was picked up and thrown again. This time I hit the ground, bounced, and rolled over my sword. I forced myself to a stop, and quickly retrieved my sword. I knew I would have to act fast if I wanted to survive. I stood up, but instantly I was picked up again, and instead of throwing me again he started to squeeze me, I was lucky that I had the powers I had, because I would have been killed instantly, it just hurt a lot. I had one arm free, so I swung my sword. Amazingly with the little strength I had the sword cut threw half of the demon's wrist. The demon threw me straight up into the air from the pain that shot through it's arm. I balanced myself and landed on it's shoulder. The demon was thrashing it's arm around, I could see it starting to heal, I ran up to its head, another hand was quick to respond to my movement, so I threw my sword at its face still running toward it. The sword flew through the air and pierced its left eye, I ran up and grabbed the sword, it's hand came up cupped over it's eye trapping me. I pointed my sword at the palm of it's hand and focused my energy to my sword, and shot an energy beam, blasting a hole in the palm of it's hand. The hand was pulled away, and I fell to the ground, rolled, and stood up. I jumped away from the demon, one hand over it's eye, the one I blew a hole through was now healed.

“You insignificant bug, I'm going to crush you!” The demon yelled out.

The demon again charged at me, I realized it's eye never regenerated. I stood my ground, focused my energy again, and fired another beam of light at it's right eye. An arm came up to shield it, but it wasn't enough. The beam tore through the arm, into the eye, and out of the top of it's head. The demon started to laugh. Then an inferno circled around the demon.

“Looks like it is time for this world to come to an end.” The demon said. “The next time I return you will all suffer.”

The the fire rose up, and engulfed the demon, when the fire disappeared the demon was gone as well. I realized I was lucky at that point, and realized I used up too much energy and fainted.

Everyone's gaze turned from amazement to disgust. “So you were the one who brought this war to us, this is your fault we have to fight.” Amelia said.

“In all honesty, the demon attacked me first. I defended myself.” Leo argued back.

“Leo does have a point Amelia.” Father Joseph entered into the argument.

“Plus all of this started to happen before I even fought the demon.” Leo said, trying to prove himself.

“Yes but because of you, all of this is happening faster than it should have. We could have prepared ourselves, but now we are scrambling to train everyone so they can fight.

“No, none of you would have been trained, because up until I fought that demon everyone just ignored it and no everyone thought everything would fix itself.” Leo started to yell at Amelia.

“You have no idea what you're talking about you heathen.” Amelia yelled back as she grabbed Leo and lifted him in the air.

“Let go of me.” Leo grunted.

“When did the Lord give you your powers.” Amelia asked in a strong angry tone.

“He....d.....didn't” Leo choked his answer.

“Then how did you get your pow-” Leo kicked Amelia in the chest, forcing her to let go as she took a few steps back. When Amelia looked up a black blade was pointed right at her.

“This is how I gained my powers. The Sword of Souls.” Leo stood strong as he talked.

Everyone was whispering, asking if anyone knew what was going on. Amelia stood up straight, and gazed at Leo with rage. “You think you can take me boy.”

“Yeah, I think I can, draw your weapon.” Leo replied with the sword still pointed at Amelia.

Amelia held her hand out, and a scythe with a white pole, angel wings were engraved into the blade appeared in her hand. “Alright kid your move.”

Everyone stood up, they all wanted to see this fight. Father Joseph kept his distance, he looked worried. Leo lowered his blade, at that instant Amelia took it as an opening and was in front of Leo with her scythe over her shoulder swinging it. Leo jumped up and over Amelia, just before the blade of her scythe came flying downwards toward the ground. Leo turned in midair and landed facing Amelia's back.

“Come on boy show me what you can do.” Amelia said as she swung around with the scythe flying towards Leo.

With great speed Leo ducked and rolled under the scythe, and in an instant the point of the black blade was placed against the woman's throat. She looked at the blade wide eyed.

“Since that day with the demon, I made sure I would master this sword and its power.” Leo said looking straight into Amelia's eyes. “I've done quite well don't you think?”

“Yeah, you've done very well.” Amelia said as her scythe disappears.

Leo lowers his sword “You are a skilled fighter though, I've never seen anyone move that quickly with a scythe.”

“Thank you, but you were quicker, but you shouldn't be at school, you should join the Vatican's army.” Amelia said with a stern tone.

“I'm sorry, but your god didn't give me my powers which gives me no allegiance to anyone.”

“Then who will you side with?” Amelia asked looking very puzzled.

“I believe that both sides have there dark secrets, I'm just going to stay in the middle.”

“You won't last to long standing by yourself.”

There was silence for a few minutes. “Well you have some soldiers to train, I'll let you get back to it.” Leo turned and walked away.

The whole group watched Leo walk away. Rowan now standing at the front of the group wanted to follow Leo, but knew he should stay. The rest of the day the group of students went through combat exercises, paired up sparing, and after all that they were lectured by Father Joseph. They made a whole school day of it.

At 3 o'clock everyone was let go, everyone went back to the school to talk about what they all did today. Rowan didn't go back to school, he walked past the school and down the road.
