Prologue

A Chapter by John O'Toole
"

This is a prologue I wrote for the book. Just alittle taste of what is what.

It was getting dark out, everyone was making sure they were all inside. As soon as the sun went down, there was not a single person outside, except for one. It was a boy that looked no older than 14 years old. He had a long black coat, blue jeans, black t-shirt. He was about average height, he had thick dark brown hair, and light blue eyes. The boy didn't seem to be in a hurry, he walked slowly down the middle of the road in the downtown area of Thunder Bay. He tried to stay away from the side walks. As he walked by two buildings two pairs of eyes that were glowing red appeared in between the buildings followed the boy walking by, but the boy kept walking like it was nothing. As the boy walked by two people walked out behind the boy, they were very pale and had fangs poking out of there mouth, they were vampires. One was a guy, tall with long black hair, and the other was a woman just a bit taller than the boy with brown wavy hair.

“Hey, boy shouldn't you be inside like the rest of the humans?” The tall vampire said to the boy.

The boy stopped looking downward “I'm not afraid of the dark.” and kept walking. The vampires were slightly surprised at the boy's reaction. They were then in front of the boy, moving with inhuman speed. The boy stopped and his gaze stayed at the ground.

“Well we'll put that fear back into you twirp.” The woman vampire said.

Just as she said the that tall vampire lunged towards the boy with unmatchable speed. The vampire swung his hand at the boy his nails are like steel. The boy disappeared and reappeared just behind the vampire.

“Ha! Great move boy now you're flanked.” The woman vampire said.

The boy didn't say anything, he started to walk towards the woman vampire. She readied herself for an attack, her hands open with long nails ready to tear out the kids throat, along with her fangs to suck the boy dry. She straightened her hand fast towards the boy's throat, but her hand stopped. Before anyone could even blink the boy pulled out a sword and stabbed the woman through the heart. The boy looked up at the woman then pulled his sword out of her chest as she fell over and burst into flames. The blade was black, the hand hilt had three blood rubies in them, and the handle was black, and the grip was black leather.

The boy turned to the other vampire who was in shock that the speed the boy possessed. In a panicked reaction the vampire dashed at him with great speed. The boy matched the vampires speed, and ducked under the vampire's claws and slashed at his legs, cutting them off like it was nothing. The vampire hit the ground yelling in pain.

The vampire rolled over to see the boy standing over him. “What the hell are you!” the vampire yelled.

The boy gripped his sword with both hands and thrust it into the vampire's heart and got up as he burst into flames. As the flames died down a howl echoed. The boy looked shocked as he glanced at the sky and seen that there was a full moon. The howl echoed again, but more followed them. The boy seemed to know where it was coming from, he turned and ran down the street towards the harbour.

The boy got down to the harbour front in no time, but there was nothing in sight. Looking down the boy found a trail of blood leading into a warehouse. The boy followed the blood trail into the warehouse. As the boy entered it was so dark it was impossible to see, but the boy navigated around all the huge crates like the dark didn't effect his sight. As the boy started to make his way deeper, the sounds of chewing and growling got louder.

The boy made it to the back of the warehouse, but he couldn't find a way through the wall of crates. He looked around a bit for an opening, then looked upwards. He jumped up on top of a crate and climbed a wall of crates, until he got to the top and could look down and see five werewolves feeding on something, it was to mangled for the boy to make out what it was. The boy pulled what looked like a stone out of his pocket and tossed it over the werewolves. As soon as it bounced off the ground and the sound rang out, it hit the metal crate and make a clang noise. The werewolves turned instantly and ran towards the sound. The boy took the opportunity and jumped down. He hit the ground and a slight noise echoed and the werewolves turned immediately onto the boy.

The boy had his sword out quicker than the werewolves turned. They all charged the boy at once with great speed, they cleared the distance in seconds. The boy charged at them, but he moved quicker then the werewolves and swung his sword one that was in mid air. The sword sliced the werewolf in half with no resistance. Quickly the boy changed the blades direction and it glided into another one. The boy ran through all of the werewolves slashing, stabbing, and hacking at them before any of them were able to swipe with there claws or bite with there teeth. In a matter of seconds the boy stood around five werewolves dead, in a pool of blood.

The boy looked around at all of them and then left the warehouse. He walked out of the warehouse and looked around, as he looked his sword disappeared. He started running disappearing into the night.

I like it, you build up the suspense quite well.
My only complaint would be the constant usage of 'the boy' in places, maybe change it around a bit so it's less monotonous?
Other than that, it's definitely something I'd like to read...
