Lunch Thoughts

Lunch Thoughts

A Story by Constance Payne
"

Setting at lunch, a notebook handy, words flow.....

"
Silently she sat at the table, square aluminum hard silver table, taking in the sounds that screamingly invade the silence she desperately seeks.
The hum of the train on the tracks 200 feet away grew louder as it approached adding to the already noisy world that invaded her peace. Some silence returned as the 108th car passed, what else did she have to do but count. A child's game that focused the rambling thoughts that swirled like the waters of the moving muddy Missouri that was slightly to the left of her position flowing freely.
The cicadas chirped, the flags slapped steadily in the ever increasingly chilly breezes, and cars that hurriedly moved their drivers quickly from point A to point B with little notice of the world that exists outside of the glass.
Boats on the river moved swiftly with the current or fought to gain ground, holding so that the lines would attract the big one that cunningly lies just out of reach stealing the bait that is meant to entice the bite.
The water, muddy and murky, moving quickly towards a joining yet not quite knowing where, why, or when. She sat staring, wondering if the water wondered why it was not happy in the life it had now. It pushed toward something, anything. It was simply following the expected path. Expected path? Wasn't that exactly what Sylvia had been doing for so long? Following a path that was demanded by society as acceptable and right in the eyes of those whom had the expectations.
Marriage, kids, career, caregiver, school, living the American Dream that she was sure was not what she wanted.
Oh to be allowed to live the life I desire she thought. Sadly her family would never understand. Society would not accept or allow Sylvia to live her dreams, so, picking up her lunch bag and her dream/bucket list notebook she returned to the car that would take her to the next consumer's home moving her down her river of expectation.......

"...world that invaded he'd peace. " - he'd?

"...swiftly with the ,current" - the comma?

The pause that refreshes...and scares the hell out of sooo many. It didn't feel contrived.

Yea, it did. Thanks.
So much unsaid, though the reader infers, and wants more. No glaring spelling errors that I could see - an intriguing piece, Constance.
