Best Friend

Best Friend

A Poem by Constance Payne
"

Who your friends are shows a lot about you

"
Each day is an adventure
A new road to explore
A life upon which to expand
As we travel and learn more

Happiness is within us all
But times, yet hard to see
Yet oft I think we search to long
And we really just need to be

Look into the glass each day
The reflection in which truth lies
Look beyond what eyes can see
To where the heart resides

Kindness is a gift you know
Not all who live receive
Some hearts are made of solid stone
Simply 'cause they won't believe

Walk down the street with open eyes
What do you truly see there
Don't allow the broken hearts
To drag you to despair

Encountering those saddened hearts
A choice you now do face
Allow their pain to bring you down
Or share your smile with grace

Each one of us lives day to day
Always hoping for happiness
Stop seeking for the world to fill
That lonely spot for less

Look into the reflective glass
And see what lies within
Open up the inner you
Become your own best friend

Relying on the world
To fill your heart with glee
Leaves us at a loss each day
Longing to be free

Others love us more
Than we love ourselves
For relying on another
Just leaves us on the shelf

Happiness is a hungry thing
And must be fed each day
To feed and grow full happiness
Is such a simple way

Look daily in the mirror
Smiling at your face
Say "Good Morning Beautiful"
Believe those words of grace

Love yourself as the day begins
Believe until the end
Smile at all those you see
And Be Your Own Best Friend!

"Love yourself as the day begins
Believe until the end
Smile at all those you see
And Be Your Own Best Friend"

That's my fave stanza...a powerful ending in this poem. Remember the song "The Greatest Love of All"...it says that "Learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all". If people see you don't value yourself, how can they love you? So love yourself first so that others may love you. You are the bestfriend of yourself.

Very nice poem!
