Representation of a DiseaseA Poem by Constance PayneMany have heard of the "Relay for Life" walks; some may have participated. When I started, they were held at night~all night~
Busily moving, setting the scene
Each booth different, yet so the same Working for a worthy cause To bring peace to lives spoiled by sickness The sunset glows Setting into the Horizon Lending the world To night The night drags on Bringing the pain with the movement The walk becomes gruesome But the walkers remain vigilant It is the job of support Walking celebrates the struggle Experiences the exhaustion Expresses the fear In memory of loved ones In honor of friends Believing you can't go on Knowing you must to the end Just one time per year From dark into light People all helping Celebrating struggling life The bags set around the track Lit in love for those lost Celebrating the winning fight Names to remind and celebrate Around Around Around Around The hours drag on Walking around Walking til dawn, suffering on When you fight a damned cancer The fight never ends Daylight to dark And right back again The Relay For Life Just one night a year Come fight a great fight Celebrate Life Look in your town Your heart will see need Find a place to understand Relay For Life
