Puppeteer

Puppeteer

A Poem by Connor Dillivan

Knotted strings and tarnished gears
Empty space and locked up tears
Are all that are inside her.
Winding down her tick tock heart
A wind-up puppet plays her part
Brother plays the puppet master.
Empty eyes and silent cries
At night a piece of her soul dies
As she plays his little dancer.
Sliding fingers grasp her tight
Roughly force her face upright
Eyes into the eyes of her abuser.
A plastered grin upon her face
A copied skip inside her pace
No one knows that she's a liar.
Crimsons grins gape on her thigh
More than just clear tears she'll cry
But no tears now, save those for later.
Safe in daylight from his grip
Come the night he'll touch her lip
And kiss away her silent prayer.
For bloody grins and tangled thread
For lying lips and borrowed bed
To end for once and end forever.
Ticking clock on silent air
Bids her creep slow down the stair
To find the final ender.
That safe that holds a gun
That could really be the one
To free her from her torture.
She opens her mouth just once more
Behind her is an open door.
She pulls the trigger.
