Shadow Faces/Nightmare Men

Shadow Faces/Nightmare Men

A Poem by Connor Dillivan

Shadow faces
Nightmare men
Felt and heard but never seen
Creaking door and sighing wind
Icy breaths upon her neck
Wake in terror
There they are
Shadow faces
Nightmare men
Turn and turn and catch a glimpse
White and black and bloody red
Colors of her nightmare realm
Run in terror
Hear them shriek
Shadow faces
Nightmare men
Fingers winding through her hair
Lips are brushing down her neck
Wraiths are toying with your soul
Silent screaming
Never heard
Shadow faces
Nightmare men
Rising daybreak, here it comes
Burn away these shadow men
Hope at last arrives this day
Waking hour
Banish them
Shadow faces
Nightmare men
But with day comes no reprieve
For they're whispers in her mind
Gloating echoes back and forth
They're always there
Deep inside
Shadow faces
Nightmare men
