Flowers of Life

Flowers of Life

Life and changes that come along, breakups, remnants we leave behind, memories

Flowers of Life

My yellow and white daffodils of every flavored scent,

Gathered together to protect their fragile petals,

Never sorrowful cheerfully awaiting tomorrow,

But the groundhog dug holes, eating the seeds

In the rows that I hoped, now packed full of weeds.

Heavy coated colorful lilies, exotic unencumbered,

Restless for touches planted in garden’s summer,

With great care I took, but now impatiently thirsting,

Like me, for delicate tender touches of the earth’s wonders.

The weeping cherry tree splattered tiny white blossoms,

A blizzard conquered melancholy, but never forgotten.

Not to be a noble one sculpted by tradition, still

Sentimentality rushes inside never unforgiving,

Their veins filled but altered now awaiting the villain’s slaughter,

I weaned away my flowers, conquered love's burden and strife,

But still abandoned, no funeral; Mourning does take its time.

Cut down the ashen bulbs of lavender and white crocus,

Red tulips and all my colorful roses, wrung in the dirt,

By the hard rocks invading the dwelling’s circumference,

Another unwise Sacrifice for martyrdom,

Terminating my affections, returning unrelenting,

But too heavy a toll, my acquaintance severed,

With a machete:

Fiend, flower hater, garbage maker, morbid master,

But how I did love the cheerfulness most of all,

Every summer, spring, winter and fall,

Though now I’ve crossed my heart of it all,

I did tenderly care for my flowers that lie.

So where did my glorious garden go?

I heard the weeping cherry is not fairing,

Ruined with hard knocks, aphids, mites,

Pine needles, women haters, (FORGET-me-Knots)

and what not.

No pity for soft petals that fell upon brown leafs,

That speak of unfastened pain, vigilantly raked away,

So quickly and carelessly they perish beneath old oak trees.

Dale, this one started off so happily and quickly turned to sadness. the losing or destroying of what is so special to us. By our own hand we chip away until all we have left are memories of the beauty we once knew...now weeds, bugs and knife marks remain. Well done but oh so sad.

'No pity for soft petals that fell upon brown leafs, - That speak of unfastened pain, vigilantly raked away, - So quickly and carelessly they perish beneath old oak trees.'

Life in its guise of beauty and beast, the acceptance of grief, the ignorance of pain..

As a landscape designer i feel desperate to help .. a somewhat hard job admittedly! Your words are so finely threaded but the content holds immense sadness.. somehow is as much about life as your garden.

Life is a garden of both beauty and annoyance; in so many cases there are remedies, there's hard work to be done, there's also the understanding that all things growing/living feed off each others, tis the cycle, tis the way things are. And that's life, so erratic, little given freely these days - or so it seems. Perhaps we all expect too much or perhaps we expect things to grow/happen come what may - tis not easy, but perseverance in digging out the best helps.. sometimes, often, now and again!!! ,

I did not know that daffodils came in flavors, that is a concept, I know a lot of flowers are edible, but I can't get people around here to eat them. Sugared violets and roses make great cake decorations also,

that's so sad Dale, your garden has fallen into despair but i sense beneath the earth and the flowers a tale of a love lost amid the weeds of life, beautiful work :)

The images you have created are vivid, the metaphor brilliantly used. The sad melancholy tone of your words touched my heart...yes flowers wilt as time goes on..seasons change..we change.

Beautiful, heartfelt poetry my friend

Flowers, they are beautiful, colourful. Metaphorical they can stand for all the joyful and good things in our life. The decay of the flowers is also a metaphor for the seasons in our life. Those are the things I think of while reading your poem, Dale. As always, very good. :) Rudi

wow I didn't read your poetry, I smelt it with nose and exhaled ha.. .......... .You know daffodils are the best pick in spring garden, yellow daffodils are classic even white ones are beautiful. Lilies yes they are exotic and unencumbered, beautiful and easier to be sold.
White blossoms, cherry blossoms I love them too.
Mmmm... weeping cherry is an elegant tree having long branches touching the land covered with pink white flowers, oh my God they are graceful. You even included white crocus, purple crocus are so attractive either. I love flowers and you spread out a pleasent fragrance, scent in my day sharing your beautiful poetry.
Dale you wrote it and your pen ink dropped in many colours and the poem also showed many great emotions. so it's an excellent write.
Well done.
