Pawley's Island, saw and felt vulnerability, natures beauty

 

Pawley’s Island

 

On Pawley’s Island, she walked slowly upon the sandy shore,

Twilight was coming, like a giant crystal ball, the moons gravity

Pulled her closer, she could see the finality of it all,

Night’s darkness drags forth horrible memories big and small,

 

Dreams evoke the pain of his hot boiling words,

The force tearing at her spirit and oh how it burns.

His rejections inside her like a seething infection, a fever

A disease, pray, leave her forever…

 

Though attention was taken away on that day, to the tiniest creature, finding its way.

Working on instinct it followed the horizon, fighting for life, a ritual - a right!

 

The tiny sea turtle pushed aside sands, wiping away worries, with flippers a frenzy,

A brave little hatchling, the force of limbs, as he worked for his prize, lights growing dim,

Impatiently he strives to find his way home, his flowing paradise entered alone.

 

She smiles and claps as he finally disappears.

His fight for life burned bright like fire’s ember,

Something she forgot but now fully remembers.

 

When he swam away into the warm summer waves,

She thought of her daughter, young yet so strong,

Leaving home one day, she too will be gone.

There is great imagery here... The metaphor for the turtle I am unsure about whether it is positive or not at its core but I understand the woman is happy who is witnessing his disappearance... The last stanza is heartfelt and hits home..

Apart from minor touch ups, I find this to be a huge improvement from the last piece I read from you.. Nothing really that would not fit actually...This is really nice :) Way to go, Ma'am...

Twilight coming like a giant crystal ball - great phrase, never occurred to me to describe the moon this way!
A wonderful tale! Life is a journey that is difficult, no matter the creature and no matter the size.
In nature, the strong survive. And the lucky.

I have watched these turtles in florida and this is exactl how they do it

I've seen a nature film were all those little turtles are crawling to the first wave they can catch to find their new home. It's very good that you draw the comparison with our children who will part one day to find their own home. My oldest son is now away for a whole month to Vienna, working for the university. He's only 4 days away and I miss him already. I was just thinking of him before I read you poem.

Oh, Rudi, I know how you feel. I actually did watch the turtle. It was amazing. I also researched a lot about them; I get curious. There were two lines of people, we were silent, knowing he had to do it alone, it took awhile and we all clapped; all eyes upon him. Your son is having a blast! But we do miss them. Not great poet like you, but trying. Thank you for reading.

Good morning Rudi. You are welcome! Way below freezing, snow and ice scattered upon the earth. I had to go outside and breath in the cold air.

My husband says just ice scattered about. School delayed an hr., but will take my time with our son. Rudi, here it is usually cool/warm/hot humid summer; we live near Lake Marion, and the coast. Cannot decide; which I prefer, summer heat or cold like this.

We don't have such winters here, only some days with some snow, not very much. My son, visited once Minneapolis in Minnisota and it was 15 degrees below zero, went sightseeing one day and returned after an hour freezing. Not for me in any case. :)

I'm laughing, would be a frozen snow woman; looking for a cave, no way! South Carolina, her close to the coast, usually 10 days max cold. Must force my son to wear heavy coat, like today.

Wow, ten day maximum...like it already, but yes in America you have very different regions of weather: normal, very col and really warm. Belgium just a little country on the map of Europe...but we have the best beer and chocolates of the world, hmm! :) Rudi
