La Primavera

La Primavera

A Poem by Briana Noël Manzano
"

A poem about the changes love can work in a person's life. How a happy relationship can make an optimist out of a pessimist. <3

"

“La Primavera”

Some days still ache,

Watching the world through a lens of removed cynicism

Like absentmindedly sipping venom,

And the tiring task of staying awake…

Many a sentence is left-

But inside me there is a tickling in my chest,

Bright and new and growing.

Though days still pass which aren’t the best,

A change in me is showing.

Albeit no trials have departed from my meager life,

So much the heart grows stronger when a companion shares your strife.

A little seed planted deep within-

Just conversation at first.

But kiss by kiss and things akin,

The seed began to burst.

Clamping its roots onto the bones of my feet,

It boroughed betwixt my toes.

Drawing nutrients from the dreams of my sleep,

This growing love never slows.

Affectionate vines twine around my heart,

Moving through my ventricles,

And every pump of blood so tart

Fuels the lively tentacles.

Filled with the passion you’ve planted in me,

On your every word I dote.

And so the pink flowers beneath my cheeks

Bloom and flourish with hope.

¡En-can-ta-dor! A little confused with the switch occasional switch between present and past in stanzas 2 and 3 (and also "Many a sentence is left-" in stanza 1.....this just struck me as some throw away joke line...many a sentence is left), but on the whole, the flow was relatively musical, the images were strong, and I felt part of the world in a way as I made my way through it. Well done!
