American Dream

American Dream

A Poem by Nick Almanza

What was the American Dream?

To work,

have a family,

and live life happy?

What has happened to it?

Where did it go?

It does not exist

Not in this time

Fathers leave their families

Young die in the streets

Kids curious to drugs

and other chemicals

A hero loses everyday

What is my american dream?

To  die lost and alone

With scars that never seem to close

Get shot by some gangster?

What has become?

I don't think that there ever was an "American Dream" as many call it, but just a dream. The American dream is just an image conjured by society. The play "Death of a salesman" shows us what it was. What I think we do need is to find dreams again, real dreams that have substance. Your thoughts are good thoughts. It is progress against the way the common grain grows in this country. Keep writing and thinking, you will find quite a good dream.

i believe the american dream really never existed. it was more of an illusion rather than reality.
maybe there was a time where it did exist...but it was only temporary...
