To Be Alive

This anxiety makes me feel like I’m about to suffocate.

It’s like breathing in carbon monoxide and a bowl of cornflakes.

Today I feel desperate, helpless and reckless.

Thoughts of suicide haunt me. I consider giving myself a pearl necklace.

It won’t happen, though. I’m hardwired to survive.

But sometimes it’s a worse fate to be alive.

When life hands you corn flakes, drown those m***********s in cold milk and douse 'em in sugar. Or, use them to make fried chicken (cuz they really do make tender, juicy, crispy, awesome fried chicken) -- and when you eat that, I promise, you'll want to survive for the next batch.

Better still! Finely dice a couple cloves of garlic mix, mix with seasoning, parsley, and lots of butter. Make a "butter sausage". Put it on the fridge to set. Flatten a couple of chicken breasts. Stuff with the butter mixture and fold. Tie the ends with thread. Dip in egg and breadcrumbs and fry in butter until golden crisp.

Suicide is something that seems to be popularized here on WritersCafe and Facebook from my own experience. We are entering a New Age of Innocence through this depression epidemic. Now is the time to embrace our inner truth.

Honestly, I can relate to this poem because I am struggling through suicidal thoughts again because of my lack of self worth.

"It won't happen, though. I'm hardwired to survive."

This is the best quote of the poem because it assures the reader that the Poet will still linger on, and stay with us.

The "worse fate" is not being "alive." It is neither. Life and Death are just apart of life, dearie. Just think, if we are really good, we will get 72 virgins! ;)
