To Paris, With Love

A Poem by Colton Warr

They came with an attack from the shadows

Cowardly and unjust

Innocent bodies became a new home to their ammo

As viewers around the world looked on in disgust

What we saw were not just raw images

Chaos and blood

Our hearts are with you, no matter the distance

Let the response of the world overwhelm like a flood

But people of France, now hear this

Let the prayers of earth become the smoke above your city

Let our retaliation be known, furiously and gritty

Let the nations of one world stand together as a committee

To the citizens of America, let us not forget

Our brothers in arms died together not only in the colonies

But in Africa, Spain, Italy and Paree

Now is the time to set the hounds free

And to the humans of earth, you must not repent

For our sins are not sins, our vengeance will be just

Like lightning following thunder our enemies will soon be dust

I’m begging for a worldwide effort, I plead, we must

So to the people of Paris, I urge your hearts

Sing your national anthem loud and gather in your streets

For I am there with you as we declare that we are far from weak

It is clear, now, that we must all fight for peace

What a beautiful and heartfelt message for the people of France. I can tell you really feel an international solidarity.

"But people of France, now hear this
Let the prayers of earth become the smoke above your city
Let our retaliation be known, furiously and gritty"

That part was AWESOME.

"Let the nations of one world stand together as a committee."

And that line falls flat. Because of the word "committee." Committees aren't exciting. No one is like, "The committee is here! We're saved!"

Maybe instead, "As we, one world, stand in solidarity."

I don't know. Just not committee. Also, I would say "furious and gritty" instead of furiously and gritty. They're both adjectives that way.

I also wouldn't spell Paris like "Paree." The French way to say it is the write way to say it, and the French way to spell it is the right way to Spell it.

Overall, I think the verses can be made shorter and more concise and would sound more powerful to the reader that way.

what can we all do is to just talk on the event that shames the humanity. Dear friend it was a very unpleasurable event. we have lost piece of mind. it's not the fight between mam to man but here two thoughts are doing this mess...

Great write, this really captures the raw emotions of the aftermath of the attacks on Paris. More people should definitely read this, not just on this site but if you could share it on other sites as well.
