The Angels Among Us

A Poem by Colton Warr

“All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” Abraham Lincoln

Have you seen it?

I have, the glimpse of God’s love

I’ve seen it in my Mothers heart

As wholesome and pure as a dove

Have you heard it?

I have, the music of an Angels harp

I’ve heard it in my Mothers voice

A word of love when standing on the scarp

Have you felt it?

I have, the calming of a friends touch

I’ve felt it in my Mothers hand

A constant healing, even now is such

Have you heard it?

I have, the sound of a raging battle

I’ve listened to it my whole life

And for me, until she is gone she will be embattled

Have you seen it?

I have, the light ever-burning through the black of night

I’ve seen it in my Mothers love

She is Gods star in my life, shining ever-so bright

*****

A Mother has a divine and glorious purpose to love her children

Through sunny and stormy days, like a shepherd, she will tend

My Mother is my hero, unsung and tough

And my family would agree, she is an Angel Among Us

Without mothers, where would we be? ... Where would we be if they had chosen TO NOT have us? ... A very beautiful memorial to mothers ...

Have you seen it?
I have, the glimpse of God’s love
I’ve seen it in my Mothers heart
As wholesome and pure as a dove

an amazing poem written on the beauty that lies under the devotion of every mother. the way you expressed her holiness in one of the stanza i.e

Have you seen it?
I have, the light ever-burning through the black of night
I’ve seen it in my Mothers love
She is Gods star in my life, shining ever-so bright

it is depicting reality and picture-of-reality forming one.

Thank you for writing such a beautiful and heart softening piece.

your very welcome
This piece is quite powerful and full of emotion. The connection between a child and a mother is the strongest of them all. She will always be there in times of need or distress, whether she is gone, her energy is still alive in the ones who accept her being. Her light brings joy to those around her, never lose faith in her presence.
A very beautiful piece of writing.

Incredible words Colton, the touch of her hand is enough to cradle away all our worries. The feeling so pure and irreplaceable.

An angelic glimpse into the way of love ... but more than that ... its a monument to a son's awareness of his relations to his mother.

Indeed Mother's are incredible! Fathers too! Wonderful Mother's Day poem, the words, the passion with which you wrote and of course the love. Your mother is lucky to have a child who loves and appreciates them so much, thank you for sharing! Might I add, your poem is written such that it is very pleasing to the eyes, the "Have you seen/heard/felt it?" seems to add a nice titled look to a small paragraph with lines that run long creating a sandwich for a shorter center line in-between. For example "I have, the sound of a raging battle" and "And for, until she is gone she will be embattled" are both long sentences, and in-between is the shorter sentence "I've listened to it my whole life." Makes it easy on the eyes for the reader. Also The way you write seen, heard, felt, then again heard, and seen. I like how felt is emphasized in the middle, because it is mostly about a feeling, and the words seems to build up momentum to that climax of a thought and then wind down again to the end. Also I love the ending, the last four lines of your poem create a lovely summation. The quote at the beginning adds context and who can deny something written by Abraham Lincoln. A wonderful read, Please keep writing!
