I wondered at first why these two poems were placed here together but I think they are two sides of the same coin. They could be separate, but they could also be all one, in a sense. Their coupling together works too well though, I think, for them to be completely separated.
I recognise in both pieces something of myself, and when taken together that identification is even stronger. It takes thought and feeling, an objective introspection to observe the complexities of one's own character, and the regretful negatives that arise from experience. In essence, an honest appraisal of the shortcomings of human nature. It's relatively rare, I think, to come across a wisdom and honesty from the male perspective (possibly because it is so often perceived as dislikeable - particularly by women).
I believe the greatest strength in writing is a sense of reality, and seeing things for what they are (there is wisdom in acceptance). But also, being able to do this with meaning and depth poetically reinforces that strength. However imperfectly. I think you achieved that here.

I spent many nights trying to decide whether I wanted these two to be two separate pieces or apart of the same one. Ultimately I felt as you do, I thought their coupling worked too well for me not to put them together. I'm happy you were able to see yourself in this piece, I think many of us can relate. I agree that a sense of reality is important in a writers work. I think that offers a certain feeling of relation for the reader and allows them to, for a moment, connect with the writer and the thoughts and emotion that they are conveying. Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed this piece here! Thank you for stopping by and giving it a read!
Colton, I can say the same thing about both of these tied-together poems. Your basic idea for each are good ones, good starting points and trajectories for poems. I mean this in a constructive way when I tell you that, at some points, you seem to be straining for rhymes instead of capturing the free flow of what's in your heart. Now, how do I know this? It's because I tend to do the same things myself at times. Maybe you should try what I do? After I finish a write I look it over really well. Sometimes the best course is to be willing to abandon the plan to rhyme and write it free verse style. Both these poems have all the makings of excellent writes, they just need to ebb and flow more naturally. I hope you're not offended by my suggestion; like I said, I'm prone to the same things. Keep writing! take care...dan

You actually may be spot on here. Sometimes I think I may be trying to strain some of my rhymes. I am actually going to take you advise and work on that a bit and try it on one of my up coming poems. Thanks again for the positive criticism and encouragement! And thanks for reading Dan!

I really enjoyed both of these poems these lines stood out for me "My heart burns with your desire
A fireplace melting the night for our love
Your voice sounds of a thousand Angels in a choir
You, my love, I put nothing above" they were so beautifully written. Great Job

Beautiful work Colton! I really enjoyed the flow of the poems and the rhyme schemes you used. I love creative rhyming as it is just that much more of a challenge to write a great piece. You have done an awesome job!

The two pieces are dichotomous wonders, such extreme ends of the emotional realities are being painted here side by side, its really beautiful, what you have created here. cheers
