Defiant

A Poem by Colton Warr

Your will be done, as I come undone

You fail to see it, she is the one

But your way is true, your way is right

I am sorry, but I can no longer stand by your side

 

Your will be done, as I come undone

Can I be honest? All I want is to run

You reject and rebuild the way you see fit

I am sorry, but I will no longer submit

 

Your will be done, as I come undone

I am exhausted, has this only just begun?

I tried to keep everything together

I am sorry, I can no longer tread this stormy weather

 

My declaration be heard, my defiance be heard

My chains forever unshackled and burned

My life is mine to live

I am sorry, but I no longer need you in it

Colton, This piece is amazing. Your talent, the way you're taking the pulse of creativity and surpassing the standard excellence. I really don't usually quote lines from the poem I'm reviewing, but one thing I'd like to say about a line: The way you have the 1st line in EACH of the first three stanzas repeat makes it go from being "this is pretty good," to "This is a piece of art." This conveys a heart with very much love. And the receiver doesn't appreciate it, and squanders. Defiance is good, it saves your emotion for when it's truly worth it.
