The Night the Children DisappearedA Poem by Colorado BrianThe leaves were stolen by the autumn wind The moon rose full, and bright If you think you know then think again What happened on this night Children laughing ran home from school They trick-or-treat tonight Dressed as Princess, Ghosts and Ghouls Clowns or costumes causing fright The pumpkins glow with watching eyes A fire-breathing torch Stand in rows, for whom they spy Placed on each front porch The corner house, empty for years Was shrouded in a fog An old lady stood in front of it Said, "Children, come along" Kids weren't sure what they should do Parents motioned, go ahead What's in store, they never knew Aching hearts and empty beds Through the mist into the house They followed her inside They saw witches green and skeletons walking Where nightmares and reality collide Black cauldron cooked a wicked brew While bats flew overhead Unheard of things were in this stew Their eyes now filled with dread Each child was given a small tin cup Filled with ladle from the pot Seeking treats on Hallows' Eve A trick is what they got To drink it down they were instructed The cup overflowing with smoke Though each of them was surely reluctant Not one of them dare spoke The brew taste awful, it was fire hot Yet their tongues were frozen cold They tried to run, move they could not Terrifying thoughts that went untold Their stomachs churned, made awful sounds Their mind began to swirl The room was spinning round & round In a portal to another world Stared at each other, filled with horror Transforming just like that For now they knew what was in store The children turned into cats The town folk searched the haunted house Parents eyes were filled with fear There were black cats running all around The night the children disappeared brian crandall 10/29/2014
