Gone, But Not Forgotten

Gone, But Not Forgotten

A Poem by Coll Silvermoon
"

... Lest history repeat itself.

"

They came along on endless waves

To lead their lives in better days

To fall, for them, was not the plan

But heedless are the words of man

They fell so far from whence they came

They did not even know their name

They bruised and battered friends so dear

They harmed the only friends t’was here

Did you know the ones you struck

Down upon their vicious luck

Who friended you without a care

But no, you knew they would be there

You took from them all they knew

And turned their world black and blue

Destroyed them, yes, but never rotten

They are gone, but not forgotten.

Some poetry crafted over weeks or months will rightfully be considered among works of art. Other pieces daily enlarge files and folders of 'stuff' that the aspiring poet is collecting and you have to wonder why the writer is doing it. One good reason is that the writer will gradually be improving all the while.

I'm not knowledgeable about the history of my own country so I'm sure I don't know about this, either. Haha. Would you mind telling me? :)

Wonderful poem, anyway.

The falling of the twin towers comes to my mind as read your poem.
An event that marked up our history with many prints and left families desperate for answers.
It will not be forgotten!

Great flow to this one, it reads as war, religion, and Ellis Island or all three, or maybe that's just where my head is right now, could take this one a few places actually, muchly enjoyed. Nicely pen'd Coil.

As many ways that you can take it. Thanks Frieda
For me, and it may just be because I have some experience with native history, that I jumped to Europeans conquering and destroying the natives and their way of life.

Two things come to mind....immigration and the slave trade.
