The Bonfire

The Bonfire

A Poem by Coll Silvermoon
"

A true poetic event. I have been thinking about this event for 14 years.

"

It began right at dusk

The usual smell of man and musk

The fire lit and to our surprise

It lit up the southern skies

Shadows danced on the ground

As we listened to the drummers pound

As the day turned into night

We danced around the firelight

Watching shadows fall where they may

The atmosphere was completely gay

Then, out of the blue

Came a storm, strong and true

Then the storm lit up the sky

And we all wondered why

This storm that just came in

Made us wonder where to begin

As the storm kept coming on

The wind blew, nice and strong

With the earth below and the sky up high

We all gave a collective sigh

As the night went on, so did we

As we danced around the burning tree

With all the elements of life in place

We began to know what we were to face

The climax came when thunder struck

Just outside the camp, our luck

The drums still played throughout the night

and well into the morning light

Next time you light a bonfire high

Look into the night sky

You may be surprised at what you see

As you look toward eternity
