Afternoon Rain In June

Afternoon Rain In June

A Poem by Colin Kingsden

Afternoon rain: something all-knowing;

I speak for all when I call myself

well-acquainted with your being.

Here is something truly magnificent,

like a tide rolling in and masking

the imperfections in the naked sand-banks.

Here is a Judgment Day that does not judge:

all sins forgiven; we call this simply Day

The essence of a just life.

Here is something of which knows mistakes,

knows nakedness, knows imperfection.

Here is the only thing Godly enough to

proudly carry the name of a cruel life’s most

ungodly creation. Here, truly, is the embodiment

of a response to human nature.

Here it falls; swallows:

swallows-mistakes, swallows-nakedness,

swallows-imperfection. Breathes, makes its

presence known. Here the people hastily

seek shelter, fearing an erroneous path.

Weary souls - free yourselves from the reins

of guilt! Do not live so cautiously as to miss out

on the very essence of being alive.

May you seek happiness for as long as you

live, and may you forever be at peace

with yourself. Perhaps even more importantly,

seek forgiveness, always. Here.
