Tainted Mask

You know when you hide behind a mask to shield away your true feelings. Well this is mine.

A tear…

Rolls down her face

She finally lets go

Instead of pushing it away

The smile she wears

Begins to

Slowly fade…

That gleam that shined

In her beautiful

Big blue eyes

Has disappeared

With every said lie

A lie that started with a smile

It ended with a laugh

It told everyone she was happy

But it was all just an act.

A tear rolls down her face

As she pulls off her already tainted mask.

A beautiful poem true to life; her true nature is you, whole and complete as you are right now, her acquired nature the mask. It's amazing how we waste our precious energy polishing our unsustainable masks while missing out on the immediacy of life in the now.

She's pulled off her mask but there is more to be revealed. Why has she been hiding tears behind smiles? The poem ends before she reveals the story of her tears. I do prefer it that way though. Leave the rest for another poem.
