Love, Rationality, Simplicity

Love, Rationality, Simplicity

A Poem by Nicole

I thought that love had flown

To forbidden triangles and

Shrouded tropics, aside from

Reality and all that is known,

Beyond the grasp of loving prints

And what the fairy tales have shown

To be promised…

(However-)

Like the fancy curls of calligraphy

And the deeply embedded mystery

Of everyday splendors, you've shown that

Love appears in average lands,

Unpredicted in its simplicity,

Arriving in unmarked boxes, few

And far between…

(But in protest:..)

The science and chemistry of

Harnessed attraction, unproven and

Lacking method, the infraction

On rational men, exclaiming

"Love is predictable! Love is known!"

Where law is abolished in lawless states,

And men are left questioning…

(Despite the faults:..)

I've learned now to partly agree,

That love is destined to a higher degree

And we're left to choose our own catalysts-

To bring ourselves to loving states

And seek out attractions, find crimson

In those seas of green,

Pull them from the depths.

(And so….)

I am thankful for those fairy tales

That promised fantasy fruits and gold,

For logic and reasoning that

Proved the validity of those stories told,

Where love will come to those who wait,

Where time will heal and compensate

For all those years spent alone…
