A Poem for the Lost Boys

A Poem for the Lost Boys

A Poem by Colette
"

they just don't get IT

"

It’s a sabbatical / of sorts

a proposal / of course

It’s a declaration / of separation

a sailboat / without course

He said “it ain’t a game / it’s reality”

Mary said “you should look that up in a thesaurus”

yeah...cuz doesn’t hold the same meaning for me

Exclusivity is on my MP3 player

to hell if he’ll ever even make a layer

SWITCH

Fell in love with a boy / Syke!

but I get these feelings like I’m supposed to know someone

follow the lines and the scars / the eyes / the guitars

He said “send me a pic and show me ur camel toe”

What The F**k?!

He said “send me a pic of ur p***y”

so I sent a pic of My Lil P / my cat, of course

and with that we went off course

He said “you gonna let me speak for myself?”

I said “have your time...speak”

but he’s weak / not sleek

He asked me “Why do girls hold out like it’s a treat?”

Maybe because overall I am a candy store and more / not your w***e

but there are plenty who will accommodate if that’s what you want

He failed to use his time wisely / a poet he’s not

a ship / he ain’t got

a thrill / he ain’t given me

a shot / to show he’s a rare bird not one from common flock

but the window opportunity he flew past / proven worthy? / not!

He is a story / but he lacks a plot

You lost boys / I speak and you drift

I told Mary “I feel like I talk and they just don’t get it.”

“I feel like they talk, and they’re just not With It.”

Momma Mary said “Colette...Between these 2 guys

you go waaaay over their head.”

Mary’s right.  / I’m in the sky with diamonds and pearls

I’m Cloud 9 / both straight and with curls

I’ve got the silver lining / and it ain’t for Him or He.

I’m a rainbow / a slide / a generational divide

You man boys...tu no sabes nada de la vida

you don’t know how to give / to get inside / me

but you reach like you want / drool like a pup / spill all over even with a sippy cup

You bore Me.

There / I said it.

There’s a vacancy in that mind of yours...and you think we can Mind F**k?

Hell nah.

I happen to like Soul F****n’ but you Lost Boys could never get me there

I attract you / desire flows like a current through your veins / but

of course

you’re off course

You

Bore

Me

I've read A LOT of your poetry now over the years. Some I've liked, others not so much... Most I've understood (some - painfully so), and others have gone over my head (much like the 'lost boys' described here...) All have spoken to me on some level and never once have I been able to say, "You Bore Me". with this piece I have been ENTERTAINED quite unlike any other time before! It almost sings like a song with a rhythm unique unto itself. It cuts to the bone, scathingly so, with the unmistakable voice of You. It tells a great story in a singular way that can be interpreted on several levels. It's fun. It's saucy. It's naughty. It's touching, it's deep. It's Colette in all the best ways and I absolutely loved it!

Oooohhh...How did you ever get hold of my little black book? I think I may have dated those lost boys...

Harsh, honest, real. Your beat rhythms bring it home. I REALLY like this! Thanks!
