MaybeA Poem by ColetteThe Maybe Challenge--Almost Dead Poets Society
If you come here / you might fall in love
with Michigan
you might want to spend a summer / here You might want to study Philosophy / here You might want to make this / your home base between your many future travels
Maybe / maybe not
You might stay here / but not stay with me because, there are many beautiful girls here / maybe not
I worry that you might not like me I feel self-conscious in ways I have rarely felt / or ever cared about I worry that my damn age could become an obstacle / maybe not
Mary says, “Are you kidding me Colette? He’s going to like you more when he sees you in person!”
Maybe
Maybe / we will ride to Lake Michigan with you on the back of my Kymco Maybe / we will dance all night / Maybe Maybe / we will swing from trees! Maybe / we will make love in the shower / hold each other / between the sheets
Maybe / we will fit like a puzzle / piece by piece
Maybe / you will dig my poetry Maybe you will be in the audience smiling / cheering me on
Maybe
Maybe / life will fall into place for both of us Maybe / we’ll get that RV and cruise the United States! Maybe / we’ll make it to the Penis Festival in Japan / the Louvre in France the pyramids in Egypt / Italy / London...so I can photograph all the funky street fashions!
Maybe / we’ll get to Alaska / watch Polar Bears play fight in Canada / do some EarthWatch trips together
Maybe/ you’ll make it back to Africa
with me
