Saving GraceA Poem by Colettesome people stay close to our heart no matter how much time passesDid you
forget I gave
you a limited edition pink
paisley Fender Stratocaster electric
guitar? I
brought you breakfast in bed. I cry
when I’m happy. I laugh
when I’m sad. Did you
forget the
pictures I’d take? The
notes I’d leave? Do you
know I give
to charities? Care
about our environment? all animals? The
children of our inner cities? and Africa? Did I
not do
enough good for you? I ache
with the realization that I could have done more. I
remember how you
went out in the cold to get
the cure for my cravings. I
remember your
small laugh. How you
held me. How you smiled. Neither
of us were grounded. I’m like
a bird ready to migrate. You’re
like a fish in too cold of water. We’ve
been misplaced. Do you
remember these
small hands of mine? If
nothing else, remember them. Remember
how they touched you. Remember
the electric energy that runs through them. The
energy that helped to save a whale. Because
if only you remember, that
might be enough to save
me. © 2012 Colette |
