VertigoA Poem by ColetteI often tell two stories within one poem...this one is about relationships and simultaneously about the Bermuda Triangle and Amelia Earhartmy
magnetic compass is not pointing to my true north i’m
being drawn toward men who are infamous, mysterious, and can’t
predict their own direction if this
navigator doesn’t compensate for these variations straying
from what i know to be true i will
find myself far off course, at the apex of uncertainty, and in
potentially deep trouble you’d
think that reaching my destiny should be second nature that
i’ve learned from the worse case scenario, and have
been guided by the best, but still i could
behave recklessly, and venture
into the Devil’s Triangle punch
drunk love, i’ve lost my balance i’ve
suffered spatial disorientation, with clipped wings i’ve
been swallowed up, my flight forgotten i don’t
know what’s up, down, or sideways i’ve
gotten lost in the den of iniquity, but hope
travels with me for new chances to reach my absolute north where
Prince awaits me i’ll
pass the violent, freak storms i may be
left abandoned, i might get confused pause
momentarily, and perch precariously atop an unsecure, unsafe dead
volcano of a man i might
visit exotic, erotic possibilities, and scream May Day! put wind
to my sails and continue travel through space and time warps to reach
my destination awakened, ready to love i’ll
probably pass through that rare region where
magnetic north coincides with true north, but where
those less experienced might sway, i shall rely on my horizon in sight where
this earth will meet my sky our
knowledge, our interests, and magnetic impulses in check they’ll
be no more holes in my heart’s space i will
have landed the
oceanic mass of confusion behind
